Gas prices continue to rise amid tension between Russia and Ukraine

BLOOMINGTON – Gas prices continue to rise across the state as the latest gas report shows prices at the pump are up 5.4 cents over the past week.

According to GasBuddy, prices in Illinois are 23.6 cents per gallon higher than a month ago and stand $1.04 a gallon higher than a year ago.

The cheapest station in Illinois was priced at $3.23 a gallon, while the most expensive was $4.48 a gallon.

“The jump in gasoline prices has continued unabated as oil prices continue to push higher, reaching $94 per barrel last week on continued concern over the possible imminent threat that Russia may invade Ukraine,” said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy.

Gas is up 4.6 cents over the past week on the national stage, averaging $3.47 a gallon.

Over the past month, gas has been up 16.5 cents per gallon and stands 97.2 cents per gallon higher than a year ago.
