BLOOMINGTON – A Bloomington man is dead after being hit by a vehicle around 8:24 p.m. Tuesday, March 15, in the 1500 block of South Main Street in Bloomington.
Champaign County Coroner Duane Northup identified the man as Darrin R. Walker, 54.
Initially transported to Carle BroMenn in Normal, he was later transported to Carle Clinic in Champaign due to his severe injuries.
He was pronounced deceased at 7:19 a.m. on March 16 from a traumatic head injury.
Toxicology results are pending, but an autopsy will not be performed.
The circumstances surrounding Walker’s death and the traffic crash are under investigation by Bloomington Police and the Champaign County Coroner.
Bloomington Police Chief Jamal Simington urges others to be mindful and alert as temperatures increase and pedestrians, bicyclists and motorcycles are out on the highway.
“Be alert, watch your speed, and eliminate distractions,” he said. “The Bloomington Police Department needs everyone to do their part to help us reach our goal of reducing crashes by 10% this year.”
