DEWITT COUNTY – After 31-years in public service, the DeWitt-Piatt County Health Administrator is retiring at the end of May.

Dr. David Remmert has served the DeWitt-Piatt County Health Department for the last 17-years and helped the counties through the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Dave left an incredible mark on this agency and our communities overall,” Dr. Aaron Blakely, Chair of the Dewitt-Piatt Board of Health, said. “His experiences hare ranged from bringing in millions of dollars of funding to deliver needed services to our communities, including everything ranging from car seat programs for underserved new parents to creating a new dental clnic serving thousands of Medicaid-eligible residents with no where to go for service.

His administrative ability helped him re-construct our accounting system to allow for better management information systems and recreating a more competitive salary schedule.”

Under the helm of Dr. Remmert, the DeWitt County Health Department constructed a new office building in Clinton, where he was able to secure hundreds of thousands of dollars to offset some of the cost of the building.

A replacement is yet to be determined.

Pritzker, recall another Illinois Governor who protested the incursion of armed federal personnel into the city.   Those federal troops, rather than calming, escalated the situation, leading to deaths and violence. Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
