BLOOMINGTON – Bloomington Ward 1 City Council member and mayor pro tem, Jamie Mathy will resign his position, effective Tuesday.
According to a statement, the resignation is the result of a business conflict that will no longer allow Mathy to hold a position on the council under state law.
Mathy made the announcement during Monday night’s City Council meeting, saying, “it has been an honor and a privilege to serve the residents of the City of Bloomington”
Mathy finished out Bernie Anderson’s term in Ward One after being appointed by former Mayor Steve Stockton in 2013. He then ran for the office and was elected in 2017 and re-elected in 2021.
Mayor Mboka Mwilambwe will interview candidates to replace Mathy. The vacancy must be filled within 60 days of the resignation date.
