SPRINGFIELD – A rainy day in Springfield cleared up enough for a pleasant setting for the annual celebration of the Second Amendment: Illinois Gun Owners Lobby Day.

Republican lawmakers were a prominent part of the program, calling for voters to reject Gov. JB Pritzker in favor of someone more friendly to gun owners. Rep. Andrew Chesney (R-Freeport) said things were great when Donald Trump was president; now it’s a disaster at both the federal and state level.

Proposals banning so-called “ghost guns” – guns without serial numbers – are among the threats to the cause now, said Illinois State Rifle Association executive director Richard Pearson, who has been putting on I-GOLD for more than fifteen years.

Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
