BLOOMINGTON – The city of Bloomington is a step closer to turning a downtown eyesore into a housing solution. Monday night, the council unanimously passed an agreement between the city and a developer to revitalize the CII East building downtown.
The privately-owned building on East Street has been vacant for many years, in what the city manager calls a, “severe state of disrepair.”
The building would turn into private office and residential space with eight apartments and four short term rental units.
The developer would not have to pay the increased property tax revenue generated by the new development for the next 15 years as an incentive.
The next step is for District 87 School Board to approve the deal.
