BLOOMINGTON – The Illinois Department of Natural Resources recommends the public return to hanging birdfeeders.
Earlier this year, IDNR asked the public to put away bird feeders, concerned that birds flying through Illinois would eat the seed and potentially spread the Avian flu.
“And even after they resume bird feeding activities, if they could clean them regularly; and clean up any birdseed at the base of their feeders. (That would) continue any kind of direct contact between bird species is always a good thing,” said IDNR Wildlife Disease Program Manager Chris Jacques.
According to the DNR, the public should still wash their birdfeeders and baths before putting them out again.
