BLOOMINGTON – The State Board of Elections is launching a new effort to make it easier for those with disabilities to cast a mail-in ballot.

The blind, visually impaired, or deaf-blind can now request a special ballot to vote privately in their own home without assistance.

“When they receive their security envelop in the mail, they don’t receive a paper ballot; they receive their ballot electronically,” said elections spokesperson Matt Dietrich. “That way, they can use whatever assistive technology they have on their computer to mark their ballot.”

The option is available for the June 28 primary election.

Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
