SPRINGFIELD – One of the Republicans running for governor, Jesse Sullivan, told reporters in Springfield Tuesday he wants to defund teachers’ unions, partly by making it easier for teachers to opt out of teachers’ unions.
“Right now, the teachers’ unions have become a radical wing of the Democratic Party,” he said. “You look at the Chicago Teachers Union alone – the support of socialists at home and abroad, the defunding of the police that they’ve called for.”
Sullivan, joined by running mate Kathleen Murphy, calls his agenda “Power to the Parents.”
He is one of six Republicans on the June 28 ballot.
