NORMAL – A Bloomington woman, who worked at Rivian Automotive in Normal, has filed a federal lawsuit against the company claiming the sexual harassment she suffered was so intolerable that she had to leave her job in April of this year.
She claimed in her lawsuit Rivian failed to deal with “unlawful harassment and the company culture that enables it.”
The employee worked as a battery team member for only a few months and claims during that time she was regularly subjected to unwanted sexual advances from multiple male coworkers, including being asked sexual questions and shown inappropriate pictures.
She also said she was pinched and groped, and filed a police report in mid-April about an engineer sexually assaulting her at work.
The woman claims multiple Rivian staffers were notified about her allegations.
“Defendant Rivian did little to monitor serial harassers, permitting management to simply move harassers or Plaintiff around to various work stations, allowing the male harassers to continue harassing Plaintiff and other female employees,” the lawsuit said.
In her complaint, the woman seeks unspecified financial damages.
Rivian released a statement saying it does not comment on “active litigation.”
The company did say harassment and discrimination is not tolerated in the workplace.
“At Rivian, we expect all our employees to treat each other with dignity and respect and do not tolerate harassment or discrimination of any kind.”
