BLOOMINGTON – Six people were displaced after a fire Tuesday afternoon at the Washington Senior Apartments in Bloomington.
Bloomington fire crews were called around 4:30 p.m. to the apartment complex at 510 E. Washington Street. Authorities said the fire started in an apartment on the third floor and the cause was unattended cooking. The apartment sustained moderate smoke, water and fire damage.
No injuries were reported, according to the Bloomington Fire Department.
The first and second floor of the apartment building sustained water damage. A dollar estimate of damage is not available.
The Red Cross is assisting the six people that were displaced due to the blaze.
According to the National Fire Protection Association, cooking fires are attributed to over 172,000 home fires per year.
