BLOOMINGTON – A local organization is donating 58,301 books to several school districts and non-profit groups.

Toys for Tots of McLean County teamed up with its national office who worked with Scholastic to provide the donation.

Toys for Tots of McLean County director Troy Zeigler told WJBC some of the books are being donated to Unit 5, District 87, Tri-Valley and Olympia school districts.

“It’s good to put the books into the kids hands and takes some of the stress off of the teachers because they are able to put books into their own classroom libraries,” said Zeigler.

The book donation locally has an estimated value of around $500,000, according to Zeigler.

“The school school districts have been very thankful and it has been received very well,” he said. “I would like to see the look on the faces of the teachers knowing they can now stock their library and not have to go out and spend their own money.”

Books are also being donated to some local non-profit organizations and the Toys for Tots campaign in Lincoln.

Pritzker, recall another Illinois Governor who protested the incursion of armed federal personnel into the city.   Those federal troops, rather than calming, escalated the situation, leading to deaths and violence. Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
