TAZEWELL COUNTY – People in Tazewell County now have the option of sending a text message to 9-1-1.
The Tazewell County Emergency Telephone System Board and county Consolidated Communications Center say texting 9-1-1 is available for all communities.
If someone is unable to connect to the dispatch center via text, they’ll receive a reply via text advising them to call 9-1-1.
Anyone needing to contact the dispatch center is asked to talk if possible.
“This is yet another example of Tazewell County expanding technology to provide better service to our communities,” said Tazewell County Sheriff Jeff Lower and Pekin Police Chief John Dossey, in a release.
