IWU plans $16.5 million upgrade for on-campus student housing

BLOOMINGTON – On-campus housing for first-year students is about to undergo a $16.5 million renovation at Illinois Wesleyan University.

Munsell and Ferguson Halls will be getting the upgrades this summer thanks to the family of the late B. Charles Ames, from Wesleyan’s Class of 1950 and Joyce Ames from the Class of 1949.

The goal of the renovations is to “encourage a vibrancy of communal living” for new Wesleyan students, said Karla Carney-Hall, who is the university’s vice president of student affairs and dean of students.

The project approved by Wesleyan’s Board of Trustees includes modernizing first-floor lobbies, reconfiguring connecting bridges on floors 2-7, remodeling to single-user bathrooms.

Ferguson Hall will get new windows and HVAC upgrades. Mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection and technology improvements are planned for attached buildings.

The work should be completed this fall in time for the start of classes.
