SPRINGFIELD – With some states prosecuting people involved in abortions, a bill awaiting the governor’s action would provide some shelter.

“There is language protecting patients from being charged out-of-network costs when a provider invokes the Health Care Right of Conscience Act,” said State Rep. Kelly Cassidy (D-Chicago), the House sponsor. “It explicitly creates countersuit provisions for folks who are harmed by out-of-state bans on the care that we support in Illinois.”

State Rep. Bill Hauter (R-Morton) said it should not be easier to get an abortion.

“As a pro-life physician, I rise to oppose expansion of abortion procedures and scope-of-practice to non-physicians,” he said. “As a physician, I understand life is fragile and sacred, and patient safety is of paramount importance. It’s drilled into us every minute of every day,” starting in medical school.

With more abortions, allowing doctors facing charges elsewhere to practice here, no age limit, no parental notification, the pro-life side of this has plenty to dislike about it.
