Illinois State University fraternity suspended due to code of conduct violations

NORMAL – An Illinois State University social fraternity is under disciplinary suspension through December 31, 2025, and must request to be reinstated before it will be allowed to return to campus.

Illinois State University Spokesman Eric Jome says the suspension for the Kappa Sigma Fraternity is related to a vandalism last fall, violating numerous parts of the code of conduct.

The suspension, according to the Illinois State University’s Dean of Students website, means the organization cannot participate in any university activities. The website adds the status means the organization’s registration is revoked, any rooms they have scheduled are cancelled, and they are restricted from functioning as a registered student organization under their current name without the authorization of the Dean of Students’ office.

The website adds Kappa Sigma violated five parts of the code of conduct. Those include damage to property, violating University regulation or policy, unauthorized entry, and two separate violations of hazing.

Illinois State University spokesman Eric Jome tells 25 News that the Dean of Students Office will work with the fraternity’s national organization in advance of the end of suspension date to create a return agreement should they wish to be reinstated. “Due to privacy rights connected with the student conduct process, the university cannot provide details on any disciplinary actions or sanctions against individual students,” said Jome.
