Plans unveiled for latest Uptown redevelopment in Normal

NORMAL – The newest plans were unveiled Monday night for the Uptown South redevelopment in Normal.

The designer and architect, Douglas Farr with Farr Associates, says there is no price tag yet but assumes the projects will be in the tens of millions of dollars.

In May of last year, the council agreed to pay Farr Associates $80,000 to draw up the plans.

The plans include all electric buildings, residential and shopping. It would also relocate the city hall annex and Normal Police Department.

However, Councilman Stan Nord is skeptical, saying there’s already vacant space in uptown, so why should they build more.

”I don’t see the market driving this push for building more things, or more space, because they haven’t absorbed the space that we currently have,” said Nord.

The next steps are for Town Council to vote on adopting the plans.
