Trustees boost tuition and fees at Heartland Community College

NORMAL – Starting this summer, students at Heartland Community College will pay almost 5% more in tuition and fees after the schools’ trustees unanimously approved the increase.

Administrators said uncertainty about tax revenue and state funding, anticipated salary increases for Heartland employees and inflation all contributed to the need to boost tuition and fees $8 to $182 per credit hour, or about 4.6%.

A student taking a 12-hour course load will pay an extra $96 per semester, raising the total cost to $2,184 for the semester.

Even Heartland’s Student Trustee Rodney Billerbeck voted for the increase.

“Student leadership discussed what we want the future of the college to look like and we appreciate a more gradual increase instead of passing in a larger increase to future students,” Billerbeck said in a statement.

Heartland’s Student Government Association also supported the move.
