SPRINGFIELD – When soldiers put their boots on the ground … those boots will soon be coming from Illinois.

The Belleville Boot Co. has secured a $7.8 million contract for the Army Temperate Weather Combat Boot. Even more significant than that, says U.S. Rep. Nikki Budzinski (D-Springfield), is the bipartisanship she enjoys with U.S. Rep. Mike Bost (R-Murphysboro).

“Mike and I were able to get special language in the National Defense Authorization Act that would further incentivize American manufacturing, the military specifically,” said Budzinski. “What i am hoping is that, by getting that language,t we can further support this company so they can further expand and grow.”

Belleville Boot Co. has been around since World War I.

Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
