ISP arrest Fairbury police officer for alleged criminal sexual assault

FAIRBURY – An officer with the Fairbury Police Department has been arrested for alleged criminal sexual abuse.

According to Illinois State Police (ISP), 23-year-old Carter Meister of Forrest was taken into custody Thursday and is facing four counts of criminal sexual assault.

On Oct. 2, state police say they were notified of an allegation of criminal sexual assault against Meister. ISP agents gathered evidence regarding the allegations and issued an arrest warrant this week. He was transported to the Livingston County Jail where he is awaiting a judge to set pretrial conditions.

According to a news release, Meister has been relieved of his police duties and equipment.

ISP says the investigation is ongoing.
