SPRINGFIELD – 82 years after the “day that will live in infamy,” the Illinois Department of Veterans’ Affairs held its annual Pearl Harbor remembrance at a veterans’ club on Lake Springfield.
State VA director Terry Prince recounted his days as a sailor: “Going to Pearl Harbor, standing above the U.S.S. Arizona, which currently entombs over 1200 of our shipmates – that’s a lasting legacy for their sacrifice.”
A Springfield alderman told how in the days after Dec. 7, his father, uncle, and 45-year-old grandfather volunteered.
The customary tossing of a wreath into the lake concluded the ceremony.
