NORMAL – Heartland Community College unveiled its new Ag Complex, which is an education center for the broad field of agriculture.
The $23-million building serves as a well-rounded education center for students wanting to pursue careers in fields such as HVAC, Robotics, Welding, Renewable Energy, and so much more.
“When we talk about AG, it’s important that we remember that it’s a very broad area. So we will be doing the agronomy types of things, the growing that happens, but also there’s the business AG, and the marketing AG, and everything else that’s associated with the industry here in Central Illinois,” said Keith Cornille, President of Heartland Community College.
The college received another $2 million in grants for to transform the new building into a “Net Zero” facility. Meaning, the almost 30-thousand-square-foot building is energy efficient.
“I hope they get the types of experiences that help them become outstanding employees wherever they go to work, as well as great leaders. And really, the next generation of leaders for agriculture in Central Illinois,” said Cornille.
The building will also be used by community members for field trips, FFA meetings, and 4-H club meetings.
