SPRINGFIELD – Two Illinois Republicans, both competing in the March 19 primary, broadcast Monday afternoon from Eagle Pass, Texas, to call for completion of the border wall.
“Friends,” said Darren Bailey, “it’s time to vote for a secure border. It’s time to vote for a safe America.
“It’s time to vote for me.”
Bailey, the former state lawmaker and 2022 Republican candidate for governor, is now running in the 12th Congressional District in southern Illinois, saying U.S. Rep. Mike Bost (R-Murphysboro), the incumbent, has not done enough to keep the border secure.
Joining Bailey was the vice chair of the Illinois Freedom Caucus. State Rep. Blaine Wilhour (R-Beecher City) is facing a primary fight to keep his seat in the Illinois House.
“We need to demand that these cities and states like Illinois end their sanctuary state policies,” said Wilhour. “If they’re going to have their sanctuary policies, they need their funding cut.”
Wilhour said the money going to migrants should be helping Illinoisans in need.
