BLOOMINGTON – It was a joyous atmosphere at the Salvation Army of McLean County on Thursday as the organization celebrated individuals and organizations who helped with the Red Kettle campaign.
The event featured award presentations such as the 1st annual “Scott Laughlin Bell Ringing Spirit Award,” which recognizes individuals who brought a “great spirit” during the campaign.
The new award is named after Laughlin, a longtime morning show host on WJBC and Bloomington-Normal radio personality currently battling cancer. WJBC’s Scott Miller presented the award to the Bloomington Police Benevolent & Protective Association #21. Also known as the “Kenosha Kickers.”

The “Scott vs Scott” challenge won 1st place in celebrity bell ringing category.
The David Penn Memorial award for Volunteer of the Year went to the Local 362 Labor Union.
The Salvation Army’s Development Director Deborah Cole said the organization always appreciates the community’s support.
“We are honored and sometimes just shocked that there’s so much community support. We’re so thankful for all those who take time to do something to help their neighbors,” she said.
The event concluded with the total amount raised, which was $617,795.
Cole said the total was 95% of their campaign goal. She said it could be a cause for concern, as the group must rely on other fundraisers and donations to cover the shortfall, which was $32,205.
