Illinois Community Colleges reporting enrollment up for spring semester

SPRINGFIELD – The Illinois Community College Board (ICCB) reported on Wednesday that spring enrollment is up 5.1% in 2024 compared to 2023.

According to an ICCB news release, 262,638 students enrolled in public community colleges in Illinois for the 2024 spring semester. This is up from 249,836 students who enrolled in the spring semester in 2023.

“The efforts of the Illinois Community College System to aggressively recruit and retain students, and to expand access to new ways of learning continues to pay off,” said ICCB Executive Director Brian Durham.

He continued, “The growth we are seeing consistently over these past two years, in the post-pandemic era, is a testament to the transformative power of the many accessible learning opportunities available across the system.

The number of spring enrollments has been on the rise since 2022 when 233,041 students enrolled in public community colleges in Illinois. The number of students was previously trending down from 2020 to 2022 with 46,730 fewer students enrolling.

Other findings in the Spring 2024 enrollment report show that 36 community colleges saw an increase in enrollment, and 12 colleges had a decrease.
