SPRINGFIELD – A pair of proposals in the Illinois Senate would crack down on vaping.
You can buy electronic cigarettes that look like school supplies. Or SpongeBob Squarepants.
Joliet Township High School board president Michelle Stiff talks about the dangers of vaping. “Nicotine addiction can negatively impact academic performance and future opportunities,” she told a statehouse news conference Thursday, “because our high schoolers are still undergoing development physically, cognitively, socially, and emotionally.”
One proposal, sponsored by State Sen. Julie Morrison (D-Lake Forest), would outlaw vapes which could be confused with something else. Another, sponsored by State Sen. Meg Loughran Cappel (D-Shorewood), would prohibit individual customers from obtaining vapes by mail.
