SPRINGFIELD – Some Republican state lawmakers want to shore up Illinois’ Safe-T Act.
State Rep. David Friess (R-Red Bud) wants to incentivize taking a job on a police force.
Friess proposes a $500 tax credit for first responders.. Other ideas include giving judges more latitude to keep the bad guys locked up, and State Rep. John Cabello’s (R-Machesney Park) proposal to order more and better notification of victims and others involved when a dangerous person walks out of prison.
“How can a community feel safe when a person deemed to be rehabilitated is released from the Illinois Department of Corrections,” said Cabello, a career cop, “only to immediately commit a heinous, brutal crime?”
