BLOOMINGTON – The Titans left no doubt why they were the number one seed in the Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin, winning three games in three days to punch their ticket to the national tournament.
IWU took down archrival Millikin 4-2 in the CCIW championship game in a comeback effort after also winning the regular season title.
“It’s a really special group and a special year. And they’ve been earning this since the first practice in the fall.“- Tiffany Prager, 7th year as IWU Head Coach
Junior Jen Kuhn added, “Winning regular season was great but winning this means we get to play in postseason and that’s so exciting.”
The Titans ace in the circle has been Gianna Certa, posting a 1.24 ERA on the season. She had no problem getting Wesleyan out of some early jams.
“If you knew her personality too it’s so funny because she’s just so dominant and you wouldn’t expect that from her,” Kuhn said.
In the late innings, the Titans were down by one with U-high graduate Jen Kuhn at the plate; the team leader in extra base hits delivered with a straightforward two-run single.
“I was like okay bases loaded. Keep it simple something small, just something small to score one. There’s a lot of ways to do it. I was trying not to make it bigger than it was.” – Jen Kuhn, IWU Junior
Prager added, “She’s been doing that for us all year. She’s the person you want up to bat and to be honest with you any person on our team is capable of coming through at any moment.”
No matter how the next few weeks go, Coach Prager has this message for her team.
“Seniors, thank you for leading this group from day 1. Juniors, sophomores and freshman, great job being leaders yourselves. I am so proud of you guys.” – Prager said.
