A Bloomington snow leopard will soon have a new home

BLOOMINGTON – One of the snow leopards from the Miller Park Zoo will soon have a new home.

According to the city of Bloomington, Shree, a female snow leopard, will leave Miller Park Zoo on May 24 and arrive at Safe Haven Wildlife Sanctuary in Imlay, Nevada on May 25.

The recommendation to move Shree came from the specialists with the American Species Survival Plan, which manages programs to make recommendations for transfers between zoos to assist reproductive efforts and ensure animal well-being.

Shree and her brother Sage were born at the Miller Park Zoo in August 2020. Zoo staff observed that as the snow leopard siblings grew into adults, they started to become significantly less tolerant of one another, which led the zoo to hold them in different spaces. This caused the SSP to recommend Shree transfer to Safe Haven.

Sage will continue to stalk visitors at the Miller Park Zoo.
