Woman from Normal dead after Friday morning I-74 crash

PEORIA – The driver of an SUV involved in a two-vehicle collision on Interstate 74 early Friday morning is dead, according to the East Peoria Police Department.

The department said in a news release that the SUV was headed west on the interstate and for some reason, crossed over the median, went into the eastbound lanes and collided with a semi head-on.

According to Tazewell County Coroner, a 32-year old woman from Normal died in the accident.

An autopsy is scheduled for Monday morning.

The collision occurred near the Pinecrest exit. The road was closed to allow accident reconstruction.

The crash remains under investigation by the Illinois State Police and the Tazewell County Coroner’s Office.
