BLOOMINGTON – A 33-year-old woman from Bloomington is facing multiple felony charges Tuesday morning for her involvement in a deadly crash that killed an 8-year-old boy.
McLean County prosecutors issued charges on Monday against Stephany Flores-Ramirez,33, for two counts each of aggravated driver under the influence causing death, which is a Class 2 felony, and aggravated driving under the influence causing bodily harm, which is a Class 4 felony. Each charge is a criminal felony.
The Illinois State Police investigated the deadly three-vehicle crash that happened on July 3 that resulted in the death of an 8-year-old boy. He was later identified as Stevenson Elementary student Raymundo Bucio-Flores, of Bloomington.
The collision happened just before 10 p.m. Wednesday in the westbound lanes of Interstate 74 near mile post 139. That’s a few miles east of the interchange with U.S. Route 51.
An SUV crossed the center median and collided with a delivery van and semi. The drivers of the SUV and the van were taken to an area hospital with serious injuries. Their conditions were not known as of Friday.
The passenger in the SUV, Bucio-Flores, was also taken to OSF St. Joseph Medical Center, where he died shortly after.
The driver of the semi reported no injuries on scene, according to the state police.
All lanes of traffic were initially shut down during the crash investigation until early Thursday morning, the state police said. Lanes have since reopened.
Bucio-Flores’ family buried him Monday at St. Joseph Cemetery in Bloomington. His funeral services were held at Mary’s Catholic Church.
“Raymundo loved his Nintendo Switch. He was a joy to everyone and could light up a room,” his family said in his obituary.
A court date has been set for July 19 at the McClean County Courthouse.
