CHICAGO – A panel of senators is hearing plenty about transit.

The heads of the four transit agencies in Chicago want money. Senate Transportation Committee chair Ram Villivalam (D-Chicago) says that’s great, but …

“There will be no votes for funding unless we address service governance, and the corresponding reforms that are needed to give our taxpayers the confidence that this system meets the once-in-a-generation opportunity to recreate a safe, reliable accessible, equitable, environmentally conscious, and economically impactful public transit system,” said Villivalam.

The four agencies are fighting a proposed merger.

The committee plans five more hearings.

Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
