SPRINGFIELD – Final preparations are underway for the 2024 Illinois State Fair.
Again, state ag officials tout improvements to the fairgrounds’ infrastructure and buildings after years of deferred maintenance. Agriculture director Jerry Costello points to the number $85 million, some of which went into the venerable Coliseum.
“You’ll see new seating, two elevators, new restrooms, improved ADA accessibility. and heating for winter events,” Costello said.
No air conditioning, though. But there are big fans.
Trams will return, the Gin Blossoms will put on a free show, Grandstand entertainment includes Motley Crue and Miranda Lambert, and there are discount days, too.
The fair in Springfield runs Aug. 8-18.
