One person dead after two-vehicle crash near Bloomington

BLOOMINGTON – Illinois State Police said one person is dead after a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 55 near Bloomington on Tuesday.

According to state police, troopers responded to the crash at approximately 1:58 p.m. near mile marker 158. Frank Friend, a spokesman with the Bloomington Fire Department, said crews responded to the scene and extinguished a car fire at the scene. The fire was out within a couple of minutes.

State police said one person was pronounced dead at the scene as a result of the crash.

Southbound lanes of I-55 are currently closed. They are expected to remain closed for an extended period.

There were no further details regarding what led up to the crash. There were no other reported injuries.

State police had no other information to provide at this time.
