Connect Transit to offer free rides to local library cardholders

NORMAL – Connect Transit is teaming up with the Bloomington and Normal Public libraries to provide free rides to library cardholders this September.

According to a joint press release, the free bus rides celebrate the American Library Association’s Library Card Sign-Up Month. Any Connect Transit rider who shows their Bloomington or Normal Library Card when they get on the bus can ride for free.

These rides are not limited to those that go toward the libraries and can be used for any fixed route or mobility vehicle.

This promotion started in September 2022. During previous years, the libraries have added 795 more cardholders and Connect Transit has provided 45,667 free rides to library cardholders.

“After last year’s successful partnership, we encourage new and existing library cardholders to use any of Connect Transit’s services to ride free to the Bloomington and Normal public libraries, as well as all of the wonderful services, businesses, and recreational opportunities offered in the City and the Town,” David Braun, Connect Transit’s General Manager said.

Bloomington and Normal residents can visit their local library to sign up for a library card. To sign up virtually, Bloomington residents can sign up here, and Normal residents can sign up here.
