BLOOMINGTON – A former mayoral candidate in Bloomington announced his plans on Monday to run for Ward 5.

Mike Straza, a business consultant and mentor, said his 40 years in Bloomington gave him the experience needed for the position.

“As your Ward 5 Representative, I want to capitalize on all that is good and exciting in our community to make it even better. Serving my neighbors and the whole community would be an honor. If elected by the voters in Ward 5, I look forward to working with my neighbors and community leaders to support my Building Bloomington Together vision.”

Nick Becker, who currently represents Ward 5, has yet to announce his plans for the future.

Ward 5 represents the city’s near-east side.

Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
