NORMAL – The Normal Town Council Monday night approved two new facility expansions at Rivian Automotive.

The two new facilities will be built on the west side of Rivian Motorway. Rivian says the expansion will help the electric vehicle maker with transportation of materials and other logistical issues.

Meanwhile, the council also tabled a decision on a nuisance ordinance related to pop-up parties. Concerns about the parties started in late September when one person was killed near the Illinois State University campus during Homecoming weekend.

During public comment, more than 20 people spoke against the ordinance, with most saying the ordinance was “reactionary” and would cause problems for the live music scene in Normal. Others said it would target minorities.

Ultimately, the council voted unanimously to table the item until its Dec. 2 meeting.

Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
