MCLEAN COUNTY – It seems like scammers are trying to call or text you asking for personal information and money.
But now, scammers are portrayed as the Mclean County State’s Attorney’s Office soliciting information and money.
McLean County State’s Attorney Erika Reynolds claims the scammers are claiming to be a representative of her office.
Reynolds said the scammers demand that the person provide the caller with credit card information to pay off the outstanding car loan debt.
“No one from the McLean County State’s Attorney’s Office will ever call you and claim that you own money on an outstanding loan in an attempt to collect money from you over the phone. If you receive a call like this, please hang up and block the number.”
For those who have given the scammers money, they are encouraged to contact their local police department.
