BLOOMINGTON – The Bloomington Police Department on Tuesday warned of a new scam that residents have recently seen.

According to a Bloomington police Facebook post, scammers email you your name, phone number and address, then claim to have explicit photos of their victim that they say they will delete if they are given a Bitcoin payment.

They don’t share evidence of having explicit pictures but will finish the email with a street view of the victim’s residence.

According to the Bloomington police, all of this information is easily available online, and people should not provide payment.

The signs that people should look out for to recognize emails like this as a scam include them making threats and demanding immediate action, which require payments that are hard to trace.

They also try to gain your trust by providing false evidence, like sharing your phone number and address, and sometimes sharing false documents.

Police also ask residents to never click on links or attachments from untrusted sources, and never take immediate action when threatened. When in doubt, you should always seek a second opinion.

Pritzker, recall another Illinois Governor who protested the incursion of armed federal personnel into the city.   Those federal troops, rather than calming, escalated the situation, leading to deaths and violence. Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
