Normal optical lens manufacturer closing

NORMAL – Identity Optical in Normal is shuttering its West College Avenue manufacturing plant by the end of the year.

The almost 100 employees who will be left without a job received the notice about a month ago, according to a report issued but the Illinois Department of Economic Opportunity.

Acuity Optical Laboratories, LLC operates as Identity Optical. On the company’s website, it says, “Identity Optical Lab is one of the most technologically advanced labs in the country.”

The lenses the lab produces are Carl Zeiss Vision, Shamir, Lifescape and the Varilux Series.

It’s unclear what will happen to the manufacturing laboratory that includes technology described as, “advanced Free-Form generators and polishers.”

Efforts to reach Identity Optical representatives were not immediately successful.
