Planned Parenthood of Illinois President steps down

ILLINOIS – Jennifer Welch, President and CEO of Planned Parenthood of Illinois, announced she will be stepping down on Wednesday, Jan. 8.

According to a Planned Parenthood of Illinois news release, she stepped down after serving for seven years. She led the organization through the COVID-19 pandemic and prepared the organization for the overturning of Roe v. Wade.

“On behalf of the board, we thank Jennifer for her years of service and steadfast dedication to Planned Parenthood of Illinois’ mission during such a fractious, difficult time for our organization and our affiliates,” Planned Parenthood of Illinois Board Chair Arielle Rodriguez Maffei said.

The organization’s Chief Financial Officer Tonya Tucker will serve as the interim CEO while they look for a new CEO.

“I am honored to take on this leadership role and work with our dedicated staff and Board of Directors to maintain stability and prepare for a seamless transition to permanent leadership,” Tucker said.Planned Parenthood to offer expanded abortion services at Peoria location
