NORMAL, Ill. (WMBD) — Students at Heartland Community College will be paying more for their education after a Tuesday night decision.
HCC’s Board of Trustees voted on the action Tuesday night. Heartland leadership consulted with the Student Government Association before making the tuition recommendation.
Steve Fast, a spokesman for Heartland, said the move is to steer clear of an all-at-once expensive future.
“The college is following a strategy of incremental increases in tuition and fees as to avoid a large increase at one point in the future.”
The BOT voted to make Tuition and Fees for the 25-26 Academic year $187 per credit hour, increasing combined tuition and fees from the current academic year 1.1%.
Tuition goes up $1 per credit hour and student fees also increase $1. This adds up to $2,805 per semester for a 15 credit hour schedule, and $5,610 per year for a 30 credit hour schedule.
“It is our mission to provide accessible and affordable educational opportunities for individuals in our district and our staff works diligently to set rates at a reasonable level while still working to offset rising costs,” Fast said.
The increases will go into effect starting in the summer semester.
