SPRINGFIELD – Was it a theft or just an honest mistake? That’s the question that was asked regarding folks in former Gov. Pat Quinn’s administration and some missing sketches of fallen Illinois service members.

A Quinn spokesperson told the Daily Herald they “definitely didn’t steal anything.” The newspaper reported that Gov. Bruce Rauner’s office filed a previously unpublished police report in March about some art that went missing after Quinn left office, including sketches of military members killed in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The Daily Herald reported that Illinois State Police identified former staffers who left the sketches outside the office after hours and no charges were filed. The artwork is reportedly back with a traveling display featured this week at the DuQuoin State Fair.

Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
