Loyola upends Redbirds in Chicago

CHICAGO- The Illinois State volleyball team lost in straight sets to Loyola Friday night inside Gentile Arena. The Redbirds lost the match by scores of 27-29, 17-25, 17-25.

Ashley Rosch led the Redbirds with 14 kills, while Aly Dawson was right behind Rosch with 10 kills. Jacqueline Twing recorded her sixth double-double of the season with 33 assists and 10 digs.

The Ramblers started the match out by rattling off five-straight points. The Redbirds battled back and tied the set, 24-24, and eventually had set point at 27-26, but Loyola scored three-straight points to take the set, 29-27. Rosch recorded seven kills in the opening set.

Loyola started the second set strong with a 4-0 run, and Illinois State didn’t come within three points of the Ramblers the rest of the way, as Loyola took the set 25-17. As both teams headed into intermission, Loyola’s Amanda Cushen and Brittany Brown posted double-digit kills, 12 and 10, respectively.

Once again, the Ramblers began the third set with a 3-0 lead. The set featured four ties and five lead changes. ISU led 16-15 late in the set, but the Ramblers ended the match on a 10-1 run to take the set and the match. Morgan Reardon fueled the Ramblers to victory in the third set, as she recorded six of her 11 kills in the set.
