Redbirds rout Bears, remain undefeated in MVFC

Springfield, MO- The Illinois State Redbird football team scored early and often en route to a 38-2 victory over Missouri Valley Football Conference rival Missouri State.

The Redbirds did not waste any time putting points on the board, after deferring the opening coin toss, they forced a Missouri State punt and took their first drive 83 yards on eight plays. The drive was capped by the first of many connections from quarterback Tre Roberson to Anthony Warrum, this one a 23 yard touchdown pass.

Roberson and Warrum connected twice more for scores on 34 yard and 75 yard completions. Marshaun Coprich collected the other two touchdowns for ISU running it in from 76 and 1 yards out.

Roberson finished the game completing 15 passes on 23 attempts, 304 yards, and 3 touchdowns. Warrum caught all three of Roberson’s touchdown passes and collected 194 yards. Coprich rushed for 139 yards and two scores.

The only score for Missouri State came at the 7:56 mark of the fourth quarter as Redbird running back George Moreira was tackled in the endzone for a safety.

The Redbirds improve to 5-1 on the season and a 3-0 mark in the MVFC. Missouri State falls to 1-5 on the season and 0-3 in the MVFC.

The Redbirds return home to Hancock Stadium on Saturday for its homecoming game. They play host to Western Illinois.
