NAPERVILLE – Illinois Wesleyan senior wide receiver Artie Checchin was named the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin Offensive Player of the Week for football on Monday.

Checchin scored three touchdowns during the Titans’ 49-28 win at Elmhurst on Saturday. He had touchdown catches of 72 and 45 yards and also scored on a 13-yard reverse. Checchin had two fourth quarter touchdowns to help break a 28-28 tie after three quarters.

It is the first time for Checchin to earn the league’s offensive player honor but he has been CCIW Special Teams Player of the Week three times in his career including earlier this season for his play in the 21-17 come-from-behind win over Carthage on Oct 2.

In 2014 he was CCIW honoree on Nov. 1 when he had five kick returns for 99 yards against North Central and also on Sept. 8 for his play vs. Franklin when he had 100 yard kickoff return, the longest in IWU history.

African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
