BLOOMINGTON – Christmas is fast approaching and that means it’s time for the 2015 McLean County Toys for Tots Campaign.
Bloomington’s Moose Lodge 745 is hosting the kickoff event today at 1 p.m. which will include the ceremonial toy drop, a prize raffle and an appearance from a special guest. Toys for Tots Coordinator Troy Zeigler said he has no doubt the community will help out those in need this year.
“It’s the local businesses that step up every year,” Zeigler said. “They do the things that they need to do to help the children who wouldn’t normally have a Christmas.”
Zeigler described what type of donations Toys for Tots prefers.
“Board games are good,” said Zeigler. “The infant to four-year-old range is good and the 10-12 year olds are kind of difficult to buy for. They’re in that difficult stage where you don’t know whether to buy them a toy or some kind of electronic.”
Zeigler said there will be plenty of places for the community to donate gifts before the holiday.
“There are 127 drop boxes about ready to hit the community starting Monday,” Zeigler said. “The goal was to throw a penny and hit a Toys for Tots box. With 127 of them, I’m kind of close to that goal.”
