DOWNS – Tri-Valley High School is celebrating after its football team won the Class 2A state title Friday.

Head coach Josh Roop said the fans really showed their support at a rally Friday night after the team got back from DeKalb.

“It’s awesome to come back to your community. The parade went by my grandparents’ house and my aunt and uncle’s house where I grew up,” Roop said. “It’s just amazing. It’s amazing to come back here and do this for the community where I grew up.”

Tri-Valley defeated Auburn 41-8 in the Class 2A championship. The Vikings had five rushing touchdowns, including two by quarterback Peyton Roop. Tom Kinsella had an 81-yard interception return for a touchdown in the third quarter, breaking several tackles on his way to the endzone.

Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
