NORMAL- UHigh was outscored by 13 points in the Second Quarter of Friday night’s game vs Mahomet Seymour, and couldn’t rebound, dropping their second Corn Belt game of the season, 70-62.
The first quarter was very competitive for the two squads, as they battled to a 14-14 tie. The second quarter saw Mahomet Seymour launch the three-ball, with several shot’s going in behind the arc and quickly went up by 12. UHigh countered with a shot toward the end of the half, but the Bulldogs’ Jack Rettig buried his fifth three of the half, to go ahead 37-24 at the end of two quarters.
The Pioneers didn’t go down without a fight in the second half, with key buckets going in for both Nick Phelan and Nick Patkunas. UHigh would knock the lead down to seven at the end of the third quarter, down48-39.
The Bulldogs kept the Pioneers at bay throughout the majority of the quarter, keeping the lead at anywhere from seven to 11 points. The Pioneers were forced to foul late, and too many free throws went in down the stretch for UHigh to make the comeback.
UHigh, now 3-4 on the year, was lead in scoring by Keondre Schumacher with 13. Mahomet Seymour improves to 5-2, with Rettig leading all scorers for the night with 24.
