John Francis Oakey, 80, of Bloomington completed his earthly adventure at 5:30 a.m. on Dec. 13 and returned to his eternal home.
His Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at St Mary’s Church in Bloomington with Fr. Rev. Ric Schneider O.F.M. officiating. Visitation will be two hours prior to the mass at the church on Saturday. Cremation rites have been accorded. Kibler-Brady-Ruestman Memorial Home in Bloomington is assisting the family with arrangements.
Inurnment will be at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the Bloomington chapter of Faith in Action, St. Mary’s church or a charity of the donors choice.
John was born on Nov. 23, 1935 in Oak Park, a son of William J. and Helen C. (Linden) Oakey. He married Judy L. Boedigheimer on Dec. 28, 1970 in Perham, Minn.
Surviving are his wife Judy L. Oakey of Bloomington; sons Jeff (Laura Sneddon) Oakey of Montclair, Va., Jerry (Laura Randolph) Oakey of Bloomington, Jon (Nora Taylor) Oakey of Alexandria, Va., sister Helen Hudson of Los Angeles, Calif., brothers James A. (Pam) Oakey of Baltimore, Md., George M. (Rose Ann) Oakey of Bensenville, sister Pat Mullen, Centennial, Colo. sisters-in-law Margie Oakey, Mary Jane Oakey and Kris Oakey, grandchildren Cole, Marti, Aidan, Jack, Vaughn, Graham and Trevor, special family Jim and Kathy Blank, Burr Ridge and their daughters Samantha and Kelly as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Julie Frances Oakey, sister Margaret Albert and husband Jim, brothers William J. Oakey and Edward T. Oakey, brothers-in-law Bob Hudson and Bill Mullen a niece and two nephews.
John was a veteran of the United States Navy, worked in data processing at Sanford Ink in Bellwood for 25 years and later at Bryant Mungo in Lansing.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother that will be greatly missed. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and sang loudly, if not well, in the choir. He cherished the memories of trips to Assisi and the Holy Land with fellow parishioners and good friends.
